The Forum’s interoperability testing began in July 2005 and is ongoing likely for years to come. The first phase called air interface testing recently concluded with four companies including Aperto, SEQUANS, Wavesat and Redline achieving certification. The second phase of testing has many companies participating (over 25 so far). This second phase addressed QOS capabilities as well as other optional features that vendors want in order to differentiate their products.

Mobile WiMAX 802.16e Certification testing is slated for early 2007 to mid-2007 time frames. It will likely follow a similar path to that of Fixed WiMAX. The quantity of gear being produced to the standard has exceeded many expectations however, expect a large number of certified gear to hit the market by the second half of 2007.
