What company owns WiMAX?

No single company owns WiMAX. The terms WiMAX CERTIFIED™ and The WiMAX Forum ™ are registered trade marks of the WiMAX Forum, which is an industry association formed to promote broadband wireless adoption and certify interoperability for its member’s radio products.

The Heart of the Matter

Maybe no single company owns WiMax, but a single government entity literally handed the Cell Phone companies the licenses. Everyone should have been reading the FAA site, when the WiMax licenses were being readied for auction to the general public. The FAA was inundated with letters from all the Cell Phone companies, who were crying about losing hundreds of millions, which they had already invested in an outdated infrastructure. So what did the FAA do, they pulled the auction. The Cell Phone companies got it all, and they are just now giving us 3G, and WiMax is being placed on the back burner, just like the electric car(but that's another story). According to the government, I mean big business, Americans are not ready for a handheld device that has a wireless range of around 30 miles in any direction or an electric car that will get you 375 miles per charge and can be recharged for at least 1,000 cycles (I guess that's why Chevron bought both Cobasys and Ovonics.) The FAA has since decided that America needs HDTV, so what happened to the "very wide" analog band that the American people have been using for decades. Well, according to the FAA, it is going to be used by the military, hospitals, educational institutions, and everything else that would benefit the American people. Right!! And what does the American people get out of all this. Well, they get "two", I mean "TWO" $40 coupons to buy set top boxes, which will cost $50-$70, to sit on top of that obselete set, so they won't have to rush out and purchase an HDTV (Uncle Sam wants to make certain that we are able to pay our cell phone bill each month and still shell out $3 a gallon to get to work). Try to remember that poor old Exxon Oil only made over 40 billion in profits last year, which was the largest profit in the history of the U.S. If anyone cares to remember, there was once a company called Teledesic in the 1990s, which put up an array of low orbiting satellites, which Uncle Sam said couldn't be done but Bill Gates didn't listen. That array was supposed to allow an individual to communicate from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world with a handheld device. So, what did the American people get, we got beautiful obsolete cell towers to decorate our landscape. To beat it all, thanks to our illustrious political moguls, we no longer produce any "Made In America" logos either, because they too have been rendered obsolete. I guess if the Chinese ever get bored, they may allow us to begin manufacturing their "Made In China" labels, but we would probably have to build that factory in Mexico, due to NAFTA, unless of course, there are no Mexicans left in Mexico to manufacture the labels. Sounds like a page out of Stalin's Handbook.
